For those of you who may not know, RIT has multiple campuses around the world and a lot of our programs provide students with the opportunity to complete their education immersed in different cultures.
For our students, global campuses are immensely valuable. However, the process of running and managing the global ecosystem can be a tricky one. As Chair of Faculty Senate, I had the opportunity to work with our VP of Global Campuses and bring the governance leaders together for a discussion on how faculty can actively participate in the running of the unit.
This was a huge learning experience for us all, as we compared notes on the philosophical differences in the educational structure of each country. We discussed the challenges of maintaining a global campus and US accreditation (that requires faculty participation in university management) without overriding local law.
I’m so proud to have met this great group of faculty leaders; their dedication to their students and to our shared craft is inspiring!
