RIT’s Day of Understanding Programming was established in 2022 to allow the RIT community to “engage in intentional and honest dialog about challenging issues”.
As someone actively engaged in exploring ways to improve cross-cultural communication using animation and gaming, I was invited to join the panel of international women to talk about the experiences that have brought me to the US and to RIT.
In our talk, we found common ground in the routine (yet largely ignored) struggles faced by women from other cultures. From accents and flubs in language to the difficulties managing department communications and politicking, this panel was a rare experience of having multiple faculty members of all races and genders sharing their challenges.
