The Bilingual

I had to re-post this video. I have suspected for years that being bilingual has given me skills that are not common with monolinguals that I just had to start this conversation somewhere.

This research only speaks to particular talents, the ones about improving memory, of being able to put yourself into someone else’s shoes, and of being able to extend to other people the right to a different worldview. I think there is a lot more to find under the surface.

For example, the question of multi-tasking. I know the current accepted norm is that people cannot multitask and it is actually just “very fast switching back and forth”. But, I have personally experienced myself being able to do things like participate in a conversation while also searching for or reading additional content. There are muscles that I seem to have that others insist do not exist.

Is it a bilingual thing? Perhaps.

My life is unique in more than this aspect, so this may not be the sole contributor to my particular array of skills.
