Over the past few years I have become increasingly aware of an internal need to contribute to causes I feel strongly about.
Purely by chance, I learned of this great organization named Karamah, which is a Human Rights organization run by Muslim women lawyers based out of D.C.. Many of the big cases and legislations that moved the women’s rights movement forward in the past 40 years is due to the largely invisible efforts of lawyers affiliated with this group. The most extraordinary thing is that the founder of this non-profit is Dr. Azizah Al-Hibri, who was a contemporary of Malcolm X and considered him a friend.
As mentioned in an earlier post, I was invited to speak in their Winter programming for young Muslim women. In 2025 I officially joined as a volunteer organizer and was quickly added to the Communications committee.
I have continued to contribute as an organizer and moderator for their Thought Leaders Lecture series and have consulted on the organization’s branding and design, particularly since Karamah is in the process of transitioning into becoming a full-fledged Institute.
I was so excited at the myriad of possibilities that I decided to develop a strategic communications and media plan for the group. Now that the Law and Legal Summer Program has wrapped up, this is going to be on the agenda!
Stay tuned…
